Grants to Organisations

We provide funding to other charities and organisations which share our mission to support older people in the Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire area.  Trustees invite quarterly applications for grants of £1,000 to £5,000 for any 12 month period, but may consider larger grants of up to £10,000.


Application deadlines for 2025 are: 16 June, 29 September and 22 December


Eligibility


We support applications from registered charities and not for profit organisations which:


  • Support the over 55s residing in the Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire area.


  • Specifically address one or more of our core objectives to:
  • Reduce isolation/social exclusion, improving wellbeing.
  • Support ageing well and address age-related decline.
  • Provide financial planning or employability support.



What we don’t fund


  • Charities registered outside England or Wales.
  • Work that only supports beneficiaries who are under 55.
  • Beneficiaries who live outside of the Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire area.
  • Individuals.
  • Charities that are already in receipt of a grant from us.
  • Charities that have applied to us unsuccessfully cannot submit the same application within a 12 months period.
  • Unincorporated community groups/clubs.

The Greenway Hub for Older People (BOPFA)

Bringing together a wide variety of community led services and activities to support wellbeing and independence into older age.

BME Elders Health & Wellbeing Project (BOPFA)

This project has had a hugely positive impact on the health and wellbeing of older Black and Ethnic Minority (BME) people from deprived Bristol communities, improving their mental and physical health, helping them feel less lonely and isolated, and connecting them to their local community. For many, the Elders groups have been an absolute lifeline.

BOPFA Advice Centre Project (via Quartet Community Foundation)

This joint initiative part funds three advice centres, providing older people in financial crisis with debt advice and help to negotiate the welfare benefits system. They run surgeries, small group and one-to-one meetings offering practical support in obtaining state benefits and advice on financial management. The advice centres combat poverty by supporting people to develop financial resilience in the long term, improving wellbeing and standards of living.

Winter Fuel / Cost of Living Grant funding

An emergency grant scheme enabling vulnerable older people to achieve a basic standard of living and to access an Advice Service to help them resolve financial difficulties.

Older people programme

Improving the quality of life experience for older people with dementia and isolated adults in care. 


In June 2024, Bristol Beacon welcomed 200 residents from our city’s care homes to Bristol Cathedral for an intimate performance with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Community Ticket Club project

Anchor funded over 500 free lunchtime concert tickets offering older people adjusting to changes in their social circumstances or health challenges the opportunity to reconnect with social and cultural activities in the wider community.

Nilaari Agency and Church of God Prophecy - Winter Warmth Project

Providing older people from black and Asian communities with heaters and heated blankets to combat the fuel crisis and keep themselves warm at low cost during the winter.

Stroke Support Groups Project

Promoting the social, emotional, physical and cognitive aspects of recovery after a stroke through peer support, therapeutic activities and games and the rebuilding of social networks.
